“When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. On coming to the house, they saw the child with His mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped Him.” Matthew 2:10-11a
This summer I went to a scout camp in Tennessee. One night I went with my friends to a beautiful spot by the lake to see the stars. There were shooting stars that night. We pointed out the constellations to each other. I felt awed by the beauty of the heavens and inspired to be part of this beautiful creation. One of the best parts was sharing it with friends. This Advent I think about the wise men and their journey guided by the stars. I think about the awe they must have felt at finding a new star and knowing its meaning. I think about what it must have been like to share that journey to meet the new King with friends, under a glorious night sky. I am thankful God has given us the stars, and especially thankful for the friends that share the journey. What I am trying to say is that, true, the sky would have been beautiful with or without friends, but they made the memory more awe-inspiring. Without them I also probably would not have known any constellations.
