Learning More and More

During the week of June 17, 2024, 38 of our Kinder – 4th graders attended WDS camp. Each morning started in Little Church where we not only worshiped, we also learned the importance of worship. The kids learned about the liturgical calendar and the significance of Holy Week, Advent, Christ the King Sunday, and other important dates within the Church. During Little Church, we had different SMBC staff members come and share their musical gifts with the children and talk to them about how much they practice and why they like to share the gifts God has given them. This was a way for the children to learn about different talents and gifts God gives people and why it is important to share our gifts with others so they can see Christ in us.

After worship time, the kids discovered with our small group leaders. During this time, campers reviewed all the bible stories from this past year as well as basic Bible skills. This review helped kick off our time in the afternoons when campers chose one of the Bible stories to act out in a “living wax museum.” We were able to invite our church to see all we have learned. The children worked hard to write a script, come up with props and roles, and retell these Bible stories to all who came on Friday to watch.

Of course, it would not be WDS camp without having FUN! Each day was filled with playground time, gym time, or craft time, and each afternoon was filled with an adventure. We took the train downtown to an immersive game box and to play putt putt; we took a bus to see a movie; and we even had a really big inflatable in the gym! On Thursday night, the 4th graders were welcomed into the 527 Tribe and learned what the Tribe is all about. The 3rd graders had dinner together and talked about being 4thgrade leaders next year. Both grades spent the night at church where the fun continued until bedtime!

I loved getting to have our kindergartners this year at camp! They joined in all the fun but with some different activities. They were introduced to the Main Hang so they could look forward to next year as first graders. Then during discover time, the Kindergarteners worked hard to come up with different Bible stories to teach their parents in Bible Times with Timmy and Clip Clop!

It was the absolute best week! It was so awesome to see how much our children have learned and how hard they worked for Bible Times and the Living Wax Museum. I can’t wait to continue this week of camp for years to come pouring into the children as they learn more and more about who God is and how much He loves them! “My favorite part of WDS Camp was getting to play hide and seek in the dark around the church Thursday night at the 3rd and 4th grade sleepover! I loved getting to be with my friends all of camp.” – Miriam Kee, 3rdgrade
