Sermon – "The Questions of Christmas"

Advent 1 – Hope
December 1, 2024 at 10:00 am

We began our Advent journey focused on the idea of Hope as set out in the story of Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist and the story of Mary, the mother of Jesus. Zechariah was held in high esteem in the culture he lived. He was respected as an elderly priest. Mary, on the other hand, was a young woman of modest means, and yet God used both of them thus transmitting a message of hope to all of us that God uses each one of us, as well. Mary, faced with the message from the archangel Gabriel that she was to become the mother of the Messiah, expressed no doubt, but rather a sense of wonder. “How can this be,” she asked. This week, this Advent season, continue asking this question to God, a God who gives us hope and offers salvation to us in the most unlikely of ways, through the birth of a baby in Bethlehem so long ago.
